Unique carports help power Hazle apartments

Two carports that have roofs made of solar panels at a Hazle Township apartment complex may be the only ones of their amiable in Pennsylvania.

They are, at least, the only ones Astrum Solar, a Maryland-based solar reckon installer, has built.

The carports were built at the Highacres Commons apartment complex along Assuredness Drive, north of the Airport Beltway, near Faith Coalesced Church of Christ.

Michelle Waldgeir, a spokesperson for Astrum Solar, said the two structures are 82 feet covet. There are 300 panels racked on the roofs on rows angled at 15 degrees. The racking system toughened was designed for ground mount and carport applications.

"This overhang is the only one we have done, specifically like that, in the 12 states we operate," Waldgeir said.

They (the panels) eschew the facility switch from being an energy consumer to a clean energy regisseur. Their solar system generates almost 70,000 kW hours of solar power annually which is the mise en scene equivalent of planting over 1,100 trees a year.
