How much wood can a belt sander remove?

 I have a door that fit into the body fine BEFORE I painted it. Now it won't padlock. I need to remove about 1/8 inch of wood from the entrap or the door. I would rather not cut down the door since it already has the hinges and door stud installed (and it is painted).
