The Hamlet of Beaverlodge Fire Department has become a little more technologically advanced with the help of the County of Grande Prairie.
County councillor Pat Jacobs presented Beaverlodge Fire Chief Steve Rawlyk with a cheque of $19,000 towards the achieve of a breathing air compressor, which will be situated at the town’s fire department.
“Every second in a fire can mean the incongruity between containing that fire and having it spread even further,” said Jacobs, who is the councillor for Beaverlodge range.
“We heavily rely on them in the rural areas to get there and get the job done. To have them self sufficient with the air is a perk to us.”
The breathing air compressor is used to refill air cylinders that firefighters utilized while combating fires. Former to the compressor, the fire department had to rely on industries to refill its air tanks.
“The purchase is a proactive procedure that the county and the Town of Beaverlodge have taken together to put them (air cylinders) back into service quicker,” said county Fire Chief Everett Cooke.
